Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Attendiz, member of a consortium of schools providing secondary education for youth requiring special or extra care in Hengelo, Overijssel (East Netherlands) announced it will cut 140 full time equivalent positions in the course of 2017. Of the total number of cuts, 25 will affect teachers and 23 teaching assistants. In the future, different classes will share teaching assistants and schools within the consortium will share social workers. The CEO of Attendiz stated that reductions were required as the number of students had decreased in recent years. As of December 2016, Attendiz employs approximately 530 workers in Hengelo.
