Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Luxury fashion brand Canali is to close the textile plant of Carate Brianza and lay off its 134 workers.
The family-owned firm, which sells clothes world-wide and employs about 1,000 persons in Italy, attributed the decision to a persistent reduction of sales.
The dismissals will affect blue-collar workers, mostly women.
Workers went on strike against the decision. Unions complain the company is still performing significant profits, and recent measures to tackle the crisis have already led to 75 exits and to working time reduction for 39 workers over the last months.
