Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The direction of the company Kayaba Steering Spain (KSS), specialised in the manufacturing of hydraulic pumps for automobiles, and located in Orkoien (Navarra), has announced an employment adjustment plan. The measure will affect 100 workers (44% of its entire workforce). Dismissals will affect craft workers and administrative staff. In May 2017 the company already announced the possibility of implementing an employment adjustment. However, the trade unions required an industrial plan as a preliminary step to negotiate the measure. Bearing that requirement in mind, the company opted for a temporary dismissal which will stay in place until 28 February. The president of the working committee regrets that the company has not given any information on a viability plan for the company so far.
