Description
The Austrian subsidiary of the German semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies announced to create 860 new jobs at its sites in Villach, Graz and Linz. The unsuccessful takeover of Wolfspeed (USA) has left the company with excessive financial capacities which now will be invested in expanding business in Austria. Infineon will invest €40.1 million in expanding its production site in Villach, thereby creating 350 new jobs. Branches in Graz and Linz will also increase their workforce with 510 workers by 2020 to prepare the company for a growing demand in semiconductors with a worldwide increase in electromobility.
However, presently the company is already facing difficulties in meeting a growing demand in skilled workforce. Currently, 200 jobs for electric engineers, computer and natural scientists are vacant. According to the company almost one quarter of the workforce must be recruited from abroad.
