Amazon, the owner of Whole Foods Market, the organic and eco-friendly grocery chain closed two of its UK shops on 28th November 2017, making 150 employees redundant. The affected shops are located in Cheltenham, England and Giffnock, Scotland.
According to media reports, the UK Executive Co-ordinator team of Whole Foods Market said that the proposal to close the shops was based on the financial performance of the stores and promised to 'work with team members to explore alternative employment opportunities.' Amazon took over the global chain of Whole Foods Market in August 2017. Following the closure it now owns seven shops in the UK and employs about 1,000 workers.
