Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The company Lesna TIP, a former producer of chipboards and construction furniture (interior doors, construction boards), was bought by the Turkish company Yildizlar Yatirim Holding after going bankrupt in March 2016, when 85 workers lost their jobs. Yildizlar Yatirim Holding, which currently employs about 3,000 people in 50 countries, is now planning to restart the production of chipboards in the next six months and hire 170 workers. The new owner intends to invest €40 million in the following years and increase the number of employees up to 500. The business expansion will also increase the variety of products manufactured.
