Description
The Dutch construction company of offshore drilling platforms Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) has announced the reduction of 250 jobs, yet another reorganisation following from the crisis in the offshore industry due to persistently low oil prices. 50 job losses will fall among fleet personnel and 200 among office personnel. Of the total number of job reductions, the majority will be concentrated at headquarters in Leiden (west Netherlands), and the remaining cuts will fall in London, Houston, and Singapore. The second-largest union CNV has expressed sorrow, but not surprise, at the announcement. The unions are being consulted about a redundancy plan. It is the second time within a year that the Heerema Group, which consists of HMC and HFG (Heerema Fabrication Group), has announced a restructuring. In November 2016 HFG announced the reduction of 349 jobs at its shipyards.
