Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 24 October 2017, the Finnish paper manufacturer UPM Paper ENA, announced to cut 223 jobs at its site in Dörpen due to internal restructuring, which will save up to €30 million annually. These measures are necessary because demand for graphic papers has been declining over recent years and will continue declining.
Management and works council will start negotiations in November. However, no time frame has yet been announced regarding further actions.
UPM Paper ENA has 1,600 employees in Dörpen.
