Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The German shipping company Hamburg Süd, which will be taken over by the Danish shipping company Maersk in spring 2018, announced it will cut 131 of 1015 jobs in Hamburg due to internal restructuring. Maersk announced that Hamburg Süd will continue to operate on its own, however, costs will be reduced in the operative sector such as logistics and networks. Furthermore, management announced that there will be 19 new job openings. Details regarding these new vacancies have yet to be announced.
Hamburg Süd has 4,500 employees on land and 1,500 employees operating container ships, most of which work on the company's main route between Europe and South America.
