Description
As announced on 4 October 2017, the US-based beverage company Coca Cola will close its site in Weimar by March 2018 which will affect 178 of a total of 223 employees. All administrative activities and production will be shut down, whereas parts of human resource and finance department will be offshored to the Business Centre of Coca Cola European Partners in Sofia, Bulgaria. Logistics will be outsourced to an external partner as of September 2018. Exact numbers have yet to be announced.
According to Coca Cola, the site in Weimar is not profitable due to overcapacities which are the result of declining sales of the 1.5 litre recyclable PET bottle.
Coca Cola will soon start negotiations with the works council and trade union (NGG) regarding a social plan.
