Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 30 September 2017, the German pharmaceutical company Mundipharma announced it will close its site in Limburg, which will result in the loss of 594 jobs. The marketing and sales department will downsize to 174 workers and the unit will relocate to Frankfurt am Main. Mundipharma's research and development activities will relocate to Cambridge. Production will relocate within Europe, for which the destination has yet to be announced.
In March 2017, Mundipharma announced it would close the site in Limburg. Since then, of former 770 employees, 110 have already voluntarily left the company. Management and works council have reached an agreement regarding a social plan. Details have not been announced.
