Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Trade unions have denounced that the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas (National Research Centre of Oncological Research, CNIO) is planning todismiss 134 workers. CNIO is one of the most relevant research centres in Spain. 87 workers will be dismissed at the end of 2017 while 47 workers will be dismissed in 2018. They will be dismissed through the non-renovation of their temporary contracts. The consequence of the dismissals will be a stop or a delay of some of the research projects currently in course. According to the trade unions future research funding may also be at risk.
