Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Romanian Carmistin group, which produces, processes and markets meat products, announced its acquisition of all chicken breeding facilities and slaughterhouses owned by Avicola Targu Jiu (Gorj County), thereby creating a company called Avirom and at least 600 new jobs by the end of 2017. Carmistin will invest €20 million in modernising the existing facilities.
Avicola Targu Jiu went bankrupt in 2015 and was auctioned to bidders.
In Avirom's hiring process, preference is given to previous employees of Avicola. As such, 18 members of Avicola's administrative staff are employed with Avirom to date. The company aims to reopen the first food facilities by spring 2018.
