Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Cranfield University, which specialises in technology and management, has announced plans to cut 113 jobs. There has been no indication as yet of which roles in the 1,622 workforce have been identified as at risk, or whether the job cuts will come from academic or administrative roles. A spokesperson for the university did comment that the job losses were necessary in order to maintain the university's reputation as a leading location for postgraduate study, and that would be achieving by cutting costs and focusing on existing areas of strength.
