Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 19 September 2017, the German plastic and rubber material manufacturer Contitech Techno-Chemie, announced it will cut 160 jobs in Klein Karben over the next 5 years due to internal restructuring. Company representatives argue that job reductions are necessary due to a decrease in orders in the last years, which is expected to continue throughout the next years. The measures will make the factory in Klein Karben more competitive and sustainable for the future. Management, trade unions and the works council will start negotiating a social plan shortly.
Currently Contitech Techno-Chemie has 680 employees in Klein Karben and is part of the Continental group.
