Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On August 18th, windmill producer Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy announced plans to cut 740 jobs in Denmark and in the US. 600 jobs will be lost at the Aalborg factory in Denmark and the restructuring will affect further 130 employees who will be relocated elsewhere. The cuts will also affect the Kansas's factory (US) where 140 jobs will be eliminate. The company anticipated the job reduction to start on 30 September 2017. The internal restructuring will reduce costs and increase the competitiveness of the company.
