Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Finsbury Foods has announced plans to close its two Grain D'Or bakeries in London; the decision will result in the loss of 250 jobs. The business, which manufactures pastries and croissants among other products, was founded in 1980, had failed to make profit in 2017 despite a range of changes to working practices. As a result the company has opened a consultation process on the proposed closure of the business. There is no information available about when the business is expected to close, as the likely timescale will be part of the consultation process.
