Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The 2 Sisters Food Group has announced plans to increase its workforce at the Heanor Gate factory in Derbyshire. The site, which manufactures the Matthew Walker range of Christmas puddings, will add 100 new staff over the coming months. The factory is the oldest Christmas pudding manufacturer, having started its production in 1899, and supplies its products to major supermarkets and convenience stores. The company announced in May 2017 that it would be expanding its range to include Christmas cakes and has invested GBP 250,000 (€278,000) in the site. The new jobs follow this investment.
In 2017, 2 Sisters Food Group has already announced expansions at sites in Derby and Coupar Angus, as well as the closure of a site in Smethwick.
