Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The silicon wafer manufacturer Okmetic will in the next six months recruit a minimum of 40 new employees to its factory in Vantaa, Helsinki region, which currently employs around 380 people. In response to increasing demand for Okmetic's products, the company has invested in expanding its production capacity. The production premises are currently being expanded by more than 1,000 sqm, and a new production line is to open in 2018. The recruitment concerns process employees, while new office staff were already hired earlier in 2017. Most of the new jobs will involve shift work.
