Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Lincolnshire Co-op has announced plans to close two of its Lincoln distribution centres. The decision means that 111 jobs will be lost from warehousing and office staff. The outcome has been reached as part of a GBP 1 million (€1.1 million) cost cutting measure designed to keep prices competitive. The co-op has said that it hopes it will be able to redeploy some of the staff affected by the restructure. It is being reported that the statutory consultation period is already underway. This will determine whether any redeployment will occur and the timeframe for the closure.
