Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 10 July 2017, the US-based Food Corporation Mars Chocolate announced it will cut between 100 and 150 jobs in Viersen, Germany within the following years.
The job cuts are a result of Mars Chocolate's decision to move its German headquarters to Unterhaching. Production will remain in Viersen.
According to the company, negotiations with the works council started already. The background to the decision is the takeover of Wrigley, which is already operating in Unterhaching. By the end of 2017, the two firms are to become one legal entity. The firm is currently working on a new organisational structure and stated to involve the works council closely.
Mars Chocolate employs about 550 staff members in Viersen.
