Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Germany-based Tesla Grohmann Automation announced it will hire up to 1,000 skilled workers by November 2018. The company is a mechanical engineering company specialised in plant construction for production processes. Grohmann first announced its expansion plans in November 2016. In January 2017, Tesla acquired Grohmann Engineering and renamed it Tesla Grohmann Automation.
It remains uncertain whether the company will be able to fill all positions, due to a shortage of skilled workers in the German engineering sector. Already in May 2017, the German Metalworkers’ Union estimated there was a shortage of 300 skilled workers.
In July 2017, Tesla Grohmann Automation announced termination of the cooperation with car manufactures like BMW and Daimler.
At the moment, about 700 staff members are employed at Tesla Grohmann Automation.
