Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Owners Warburtons have confirmed the decision to close its Giles Foods factory in Milton Keynes. The site manufactures a range of bread and pastry products for retailers. The decision results in 218 jobs being put at risk of redundancy and follows a statutory consultation period of 45 days. The decision to close the site, which was acquired by Warburtons in 2013, follows the loss of some major contracts and the company operating at a loss. The exact date of the closure has yet to be announced, though it is expected to be later in 2017.
