Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Financial services company Computershare has announced plans to create 300 new jobs, which will be located in a new technology centre in Edinburgh. The Australian owned company has secured GBP 2 million (€2.3 million) investment from Scottish Enterprise in order to develop the project. The company intends the new site to become a 'centre of excellence' when it becomes operational. Reports suggest that the new centre will be open either later in 2017 or in 2018. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon visited the site when the announcement was made and commented that the investment by companies such as Computershare highlighted the skills available in the local economy.
