European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Car Manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced plans to create 5,000 new jobs, most of which will be based in the UK. One thousand jobs will be for electronic and software engineers and the remaining 4,000 positions will be in manufacturing. The decision to expand comes at a time when the car industry is moving more towards electric vehicles and hybrids, and away from diesel engines. The new jobs are thought to be part of the development of these new models.
The exact location of the new jobs has not been specified. According to reports, the vast majority of the roles will be UK based and located at the company's existing sites, five of which are in the midlands with another on Merseyside. It is expected that the new jobs will be recruited over the coming twelve months. The decision of JLR to expand has been seen as a major boost for the UK automotive industry following the referendum vote to leave the European Union.
The recruitment strategy has attracted some comment in the media, with JLR teaming up with virtual band Gorillaz. A challenge on the band's mixed reality app forms part of the recruitment process.
