Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Austrian family-run business Maco, with headquarters in Salzburg, will hire 150 new employees at its production site in Trieben, Styria. The company invested in new machinery and has taken new eroding systems as well as milling and grinding machines into operation in Trieben. Additional investments are underway to expand the company's research and innovation centre in Salzburg. After restructuring measures and a downsizing of Maco's workforce in 2015, economic prospects for 2018 are promising and the company expects growth in turnover. As of July 2017, it is not known when the new jobs will be filled. However, recruitment is reported to be underway.
