Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Call centre operator Firstsource has announced plans to create 350 jobs at its site in Middlesbrough. The jobs are reported to be servicing a contract for an unnamed high street bank. The company will be filling roles for customer service agents, team leaders and trainers. Some of the roles will be for fixed-term contracts of three to four months, but many of the positions will also be permanent. The balance between fixed-term and permanent contracts has not been reported. The exact timeframe for filling the jobs is unknown, though recruitment has already started and is expected to continue until sometime around October 2017.
UPDATE 03/08/2017: Following the award of another contract, Firstsource has confirmed that it will be seeking to add further jobs at its site in Middlesbrough. The new award means that Firstsource will add 500 jobs, rather than the previously reported 350.
