Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The cleaning company Solreneriet AB has initiated employer-employee negotiations to cut 90 jobs. Redundancies are due to negative results after the company overtook the previous contractor's (ISS Facility) service contract to clean commuter trains in the Stockholm Region for the operator MTR. Currently 196 of Solreneriet's employees are working with cleaning services connected to the commuter trains in the Stockholm Region. In its tender to overtake the cleaning services, Solreneriet had budgeted for a smaller team. However, it finally overtook more employees from the previous contractor, which ended up not being financially sustainable. Representatives from local union SEKO have stated that they aim to lower the number of redundancies in upcoming negotiations.
