Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The management of the group Trèves has announced the closure of its subsidiary Manufacture Transformation Textile (Matt) by the end of 2019. The information has been given to the trade unions and a three-months negotiation has started to mitigate the employment impacts. A mediator appointed by the Ministry of Labour took part in the meeting. The employees are on strike since 6 June. Trèves has proposed an extra-dismissal allowance 25% higher than the legal amount. The unions ask for €3,000 per year of seniority for each employee. It can be expected that the first departures will start when the social plan is signed or considered valid.
