Description
The American fast food chain Taco Bell is to open restaurants in Finland. The first restaurant will open in central Helsinki early in the autumn of 2017, and another two are to open in Helsinki and Espoo later in the autumn. Within three years, the company aims to have at least ten restaurants in the Helsinki metropolitan area and other big cities in the country. Approximately 100 employees will start during autumn 2017, and within the first year of activity the number should rise to more than 300. The recruitment process is reportedly well underway.
The fast food sector turnover reportedly increased by 6.8% to €565 million in 2016. Chains such as Kotipizza and Burger King, which opened its first restaurant in the country in 2013, have been growing strongly in recent years. At the same time, other companies such as McDonald's and Hesburger have scaled down their businesses, with McDonald's revenues decreasing by 3% and Hesburger being barely on the positive side in 2016. The hotel and restaurant operator Restel, who operates Burger King and Taco Bell, says it means to introduce a new restaurant chain in Finland every year in the upcoming years.
