Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Telford College of Arts and Technology is reported to be cutting 76 jobs. The college, which according to sources has been operating with surplus capacity for some time, currently employs 480 staff. A statutory period of consultation is currently underway and it is understood that the college will open a voluntary redundancy scheme in a bid to minimise the number of compulsory job exits. A spokesperson for the University and College Union (UCU) commented that it was hoped the number of redundancies would be reduced through the consultation process. The final outcomes on numbers and timeframe will follow the consultation's conclusion.
