Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Mars Petcare UK has announced plans to cut 64 jobs from its plant in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. The site which employs around 300 people manufactures well-known brands of cat and dog food. It is understood that the proposed cuts will come from the tinned food production line. The company has said that the reason for the restructure is to keep the factory viable for future business. A statutory period of consultation with affected workers is already reported to be underway and final outcomes on numbers and the timeframe will be known at the completion of the process.
