Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Call centre operator Ascensos has announced plans to create up to 600 new jobs when it opens a new call centre in Cowes, Isle of Wight. The initial phase will result in the creation of 400 jobs, with a further 200 to follow. The company, which was founded in 2013, currently operates sites in Motherwell and Clydebank, as well as in the Netherlands and Romania. The new venture on the Isle of Wight is therefore the first UK site outside of Scotland. The new jobs are being supported by a new contract which Ascensos has signed with a high street retailer. The Island's council is supporting the new development with an investment of GBP 2.1 million (€2.4 million).
