Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Education publisher Pearson has opened a new finance centre in Belfast which will create 300 new jobs; 100 of the new positions have already been filled, with a further 200 roles still to be allocated.
The company has undergone major restructuring in 2016 resulting in job losses across its global operations. The opening of the new centre in Northern Ireland is part of the company's drive for greater efficiency across the business. The development agency Invest NI are supporting the venture with a grant of GBP 1.5 million (€1.7 million); the Department of the Economy are also supporting by providing skills training worth GBP 460,000 (€522,700).
