Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Fashion retailer Burberry has announced that it is to cut 300 jobs from its London offices as part of cost cutting measures. The decision follows a 6% fall in the company's share price in April 2017. The jobs which will be cut from the London offices are in the firm's administrative and support roles, such as human resources and financial roles. Some IT and customer services positions are also reported to be affected. Staff will be offered the opportunity to relocate to Leeds, a distance of over 250 km, or will face redundancy. Burberry will open a new business services centre in Leeds in October 2017.
