Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Fashion retailer Jaeger entered administration on 10 April 2017. At the time of entering administration the company employed 680 workers across 48 stores. Administrators AlixPartners have failed to find a buyer for the brand and have now announced the first wave of store closures and redundancies; 209 jobs will be lost from closing 20 stores and from making reductions at the London head office and the distributors. The fate of the remaining stores has yet to be determined, though some reports suggest that it is likely that all the stores will eventually close.
