Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 3 May 2017, German frozen dessert producer Conditorei Coppenrath & Wiese announced to create some 500 jobs within the next two years in Mettingen, Germany.
Due to the closing announcement of the nearby site of food producer Homann (Homann, 2017), Conditorei Coppenrath & Wiese seeks to get in touch with Homann's works' council. The company is intending to take over experienced employees from Homann. The chairman of the works’ council has however expressed his concerns with regard to the different timelines of the job cuts at Homann and the job creation at Conditorei Coppenrath & Wiese.
The company currently employs 2,300 staff members in Mettingen and Osnabrück Atter.
