Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Engie, a French multinational electrics and utility company, has announced its restructuring plans that include the dismissal of 116 of its employees in Belgium. The employees facing dismissal are mostly white collar workers in support jobs at the company's Belgian headquarters. The company's management states no direct dismissals will take place and an option will be offered for older employees to continue to receive a part of their wage while remaining at home. The reorganisation comes as part of a restructuring in the larger European operation of the company that includes similar measures in France and the UK as well.
