Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Anton Group a commercial printing company based in Laindon, Essex has entered administration with the loss of 123 jobs. The company had recorded losses over recent months and an attempt to expand operations through acquiring the Merchandise 365 business in 2016 resulted in further losses. Administrators Deloitte were appointed on 27 March 2017 and immediately announced 123 redundancies. The company has been placed in an orderly wind-down as it searches for a buyer to take on the operations. At the time the administrators were appointed it is understood that the business employed 300 staff. The future of the majority of the workforce therefore remains uncertain.
