Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Cleaning services provider Osisus has been declared bankrupt with the loss of 119 jobs. The company has been experiencing financial difficulties for some time now and has been unable to pay all employees their due salaries. The Employee Insurance Agency, UWV (Uitvoeringsinstituut Werknemersverzekeringen), is reported to have been paying the affected employees’ overdue salaries for a period of up to 13 weeks. UWV will also be paying the employees’ notice period salaries and annual leave allowances. The bankruptcy administrator is exploring the possibility of another company re-hiring the affected employees so that as many jobs as possible could be saved.
