Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Austrian world leading manufacturer of fire-fighting vehicles and systems for disaster protection Rosenbauer is implementing job cuts at its site in Leoning due to declining orders.
The Near and Middle East has been an important market for Rosenbauer, the declining oil price has led to cuts in investments also affecting orders of fire-fighting vehicles. As a consequence, the site in Leonding will only build 100 instead of 120 vehicles in 2017, leading to the dismissal of 130 employees, half of them are temporary agency workers. Parts of the job cuts have already been implemented in the fourth quarter of 2016, the rest will follow at the beginning of 2017.
Despite this restructuring, Rosenbauer was able to increase staff numbers in the USA and Germany during the last year.
Currently, Rosenbauer is employing 1,150 workers at its site in Leonding. Overall the company employs 3,375 staff world wide.
