Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Xero, the global cloud-based accounting software developer, has announced that it is expanding its UK operations and taking on 100 new staff to work in sales and customer experience roles at its headquarters in Milton Keynes, England. No exact information is available on when these jobs are expected to be filled, though the media report suggests that they will be filled soon, as new office space has been built. Gary Turner, the managing director of Xero UK has said that the expansion is necessary to keep up with the “incredible growth” in the number of customers in the last financial year. Xero specialises in cloud accounting: their cloud-based accounting software is targeted primarily at small businesses, but also at accountants and bookkeepers.
