Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Travelodge hotel chain has announced that it is to create 325 new positions across the UK by the end of 2017. Fifteen new hotels are set to open in London (Brent Cross, Harrow, Bromley Shopping Centre, Romford Quadrant Shopping Centre and Wood Green Shopping Centre), Bath, Dudley, Inverness, Newcastle, Peterhead, Redhill, Stirling, Thurrock, West Bromwich and York. Travelodge has already started the recruitment process for roles at all levels, from cleaners through receptionists to management.
The current wave of expansion follows the opening of six hotels in 2016 and more openings are planned for 2018, including a newly built hotel in central London, which is already under construction.
