Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Clays, the UK-based book printers, has announced plans to cut 120 jobs. The announcement follows the loss of one of the company's key clients, which will lead to a significant drop in the volume of orders. According to the trade union Unite, mainly workers on the shop floor are affected by the proposed cuts. Clays has entered into the mandatory consultation period regarding the proposed redundancies. The regional officer of the trade union Unite, Mark Walker, has confirmed the news and promised to “fight every step of the way” to secure the best terms and conditions for the affected employees.
