Description
On 9 March 2017, Dutch meat processor Vion announced to close its site in Zeven affecting a total of 122 jobs. The closing will be implemented at the earliest possible date, at the latest by 28 April 2017. Some of these employees will be relocated to the company's site in Emstek, also located in Lower Saxony.
The capacity in Emstek will be increased from 70,000 to 80,000 animals per week and the site has the required licences to export to other European countries as well as to Asia.
Negotiations with the works’ council about a social plan and a reconciliation of interests will start shortly.
Zeven is the fourth location in Germany to close since 2014. Vion runs a total of 25 sites in Germany and the Netherlands and exports meat across 16 countries worldwide.
