Description
C&A, a Dutch chain of clothing retailers has announced the dismissal of 70 of its 570 employees at its offices in Vilvoorde. The dismissal is presented as part of an effort to improve the competitiveness and viability of the company. The employees facing dismissal are active in the European headquarters of the company. All are white collar workers. Since it is the first round of dismissals of this magnitude at Vilvoorde, the employees were reported to be surprised when receiving the news. Trade unions are however relieved the amount of jobs lost remains limited to 70, as rumours suggested significantly higher numbers.
