Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 20 February 2017, US-based retailer Amazon announced to create more than 2,000 jobs in Germany during 2017. The retailer will be advertising a range of positions for engineers, software developers and young professionals. These jobs will be created in new logistic centres, Amazon offices or development centres. Furthermore, the company plans to expand their new business lines like Amazon Marketplace, Amazon Web Services and Kindle Direct Publishing.
The announcement is part of a plan to create up to 15,000 jobs in Europe, see (Amazon, 2017). It is however not clear if the already announced 1,000 jobs in Frankenthal, see (Amazon, 2016) are being created in addition or fall within these 2,000 jobs.
Overall, Amazon wants to increase its staff numbers in Germany to 16,500 by the end of 2017.
