Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The governing board of Deoleo, the company in charge of manufacturing olive oil for Koipesol and Carbonell, has approved an employment adjustment plan that will affect 95 workers in the plants of Alcolea (Córdoba), Andújar (Jaén) and Rivas Vaciamadrid (Madrid). This figure represents 14% of its entire workforce in Spain. The measure is taken as a consequence of productivity reasons. The company explains that it is taking some measures to adapt the structure of the company, including an investment plan and a strategy to rationalise costs and improve competitiveness. In the coming days, a negotiation process to discuss the measure with the trade unions will be opened.
