Description
The Dutch supermarket chain Jumbo is doubling its online shopping and delivery services in 2017, which they expect will lead to job growth of some 900 jobs. Jumbo has been investing in its online services capacity, which has grown in 2016 from 20,000 orders a week to 50,000 orders a week. It has also been expanding the number of pick-up points, and expects to double the number of locations from which home delivery will be possible. It further intends to begin construction of a new highly automated distribution facility in Nieuwegein (central Netherlands) which will replace the current one in Elst in 2020. The consequences for personnel are expected to be known by the fall of 2018. Jumbo is a family-owned business with 580 shops across the Netherlands. It also owns the restaurant chain La Place, which was part of the department store chain V&D until V&D went bankrupt in December 2015.
