Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The pharmaceutical manufacturer Merial has announced the hiring of 125 people in Lyon and its region, and will have a total of 1,750 employees on its Lyon sites this year. Merial was previously part of the French pharmaceutical group Sanofi. It was sold to the German pharmaceutical group Boehringer Ingelheim in early January 2017. Its global headquarters, previously based in Lyon, will be transferred to Ingelheim am Rhein in Germany, but the group highlights that the Lyon site will remain a "key operational centre" for its activities. Following the merger of the German company with Merial, the new company aims to become the world's No. 1 animal health company, with 50,000 employees worldwide. The group has decided about €140 investments in its sites in the Lyon area and to build a new regional headquarter in Gerland near Lyon.
